Students give back to community

UpperSumasdonation.jpg

Teacher T.J. Klim’s Grade 5 class at Upper Sumas elementary wanted to give back to their community and did so in the form of a food, clothing and blanket drive.

The students collected more than 250 non-perishable food items, and more than 30 bags of clothing and blankets were donated by families of the school.

All food was donated to the Abbotsford Food Bank, and the other items went to the Salvation Army.

Klim has been teaching the students about generosity in their Personal Planning class, and this was their project for the unit.

They made flyers and posters and challenged each class at the school to bring in as many items as they could.

Klim’s students collected the items each day, eventually building a pile around the class Christmas tree.
