The Abbotsford Arts Council presents a demonstration on straw ornament making from noon to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16 and a demo on yarn spinning on Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The demos run at Kariton Gallery (2387 Ware St.) during the Christmas Artisan Gift Fair, taking place until Dec. 22. COFFEE TIME FRIDAYS
Coffee Time Fridays, a weekly drop-in group for newcomers to Canada, meets Friday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (2499 McMillan Rd.),. Each week, the group completes a different fun activity, while enjoying tea and coffee. BOOTCAMP FOR CHARITY
KP Fitness Studio in Abbotsford (#2-31929 Mercantile Way) hosts Bootcamp for the Food Bank on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 8 and 9 a.m. Register by calling 604-217-8419. Participants are asked to bring an item from the “what to give” list (posted online at abbotsfordfitnesstrain-ing.com). For each item donated, their name will be entered in a draw for prizes. A pack of diapers (size 4 and up) qualifies for three entries. Anyone who brings in five items receives a free week of bootcamp, or two weeks if they bring in a pack of diapers.

RING IN THE NEW YEAR
The Abbotsford Social Activity Association holds a New Year’s Eve buffet dinner and dance at its hall at 33889 Essendene Ave. Live music is by Good Vibrations. The event runs from 8 p.m to 12:30 a.m. Tickets are $25 and are available until Dec. 24 by calling Jodie at 604-850-2465.
A New Year’s Eve celebration takes place at Jubilee Hall (7989 Bradner Rd.) with live music by the Ken McCoy Band. LITERACY IN MOTION
Mission Literacy in Motion is recruiting volunteers for its adult literacy, English as a Second Language, Reading Buddies one-on-one program, and group tutoring.
