Burnaby family gives $25K to St. Michael's Centre bath project
A Burnaby family has made a major donation to a project at St. Michael's Centre in appreciation for the care its staff gave a family member.
The centre, through its Tapestry Foundation for Health Care, is looking to raise the last $100,000 it needs to provide new therapeutic bathing rooms for its 138 residents. The first $200,000 was raised from Fraser Health Authority and private donors.
When Burnaby resident and businessman Marco Faccone learned of the project, his family contributed $25,000 in memory of his mother Anna, who passed away at St. Michael's Centre some years ago at age 53.
“My mom was a very private person – it meant a lot to my dad and our family that the care team at St. Michael’s looked after her personal needs like bathing and maintained her dignity. We knew how important that was for her, ” Faccone said in a press release. “We are making this donation in her honour to show our appreciation and to help ensure that others receive the best possible care.
The three older bathing rooms for long-term care residents are sorely in need of major renovation and renewal. The planned new rooms would make bathing a more homelike experience with hydrosound tubs designed to protect fragile skin and enhance wound healing and modern safety features.
