Be A Santa program welcomes new contributors
The holidays are a time for families and friends to gather together and enjoy annual festive traditions like decorating their homes, cooking a delicious meal and unwrapping gifts.
However, for seniors without loved ones and poor financial support, the holiday season can be a very lonely time.
That’s why Kelowna’s Mayor Walter Gray has proclaimed Dec. 12 as Be a Santa to a Senior Day.
Began by Home Instead Senior Care, the Be a Santa to a Senior program provides holiday gifts to isolated seniors, who may otherwise not receive a gift during the holiday season.
Kelowna residents can pick up an ornament from Christmas trees set up at London Drugs in Kelowna and West Kelowna. The ornament will include the first name of a senior and their requested gift.
Local residents are encouraged to take an ornament, buy the items listed and return them unwrapped to the same location. Local RCMP officers will help deliver gifts.
To celebrate Be a Santa to a Senior Day, The Missionwood Retirement Resort will host a special luncheon on Dec. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This delicious turkey dinner will be served “by donation” to all in the community who desire to assist a senior in need.
All donations will go towards the Be a Santa to a Senior program.
City councillor Maxine DeHart will read the Be a Santa To a Senior proclamation on behalf of the mayor between noon and 1 p.m.
