On Saturday, Dec. 8 ShoreRunners will be holding the second annual Reindeer Run in support of The Salvation Army’s emergency food hamper program at Rotary Beach Park.

“The event starts at 10am and participants can run 5km or walk 3km,” said ShoreRunners Manager Jayne White.

“The cost for adults to participate is a suggested $20 donation towards The Salvation Army’s emergency food hamper program and there is no cost for children.”

The Salvation Army will also issue tax receipts for any donation $20 or more.

The event will be taking place rain or shine and participants are encouraged to wear their favorite Christmas outfits and costumes.

Prizes will be awarded to those with the best costumes.

“Last year Santa and the Grinch made an appearance and we’re hoping they will join us again,” added White. “We will also be collecting gently used shoes and non-perishable food items at the event.”

Snacks and refreshments will be provided following the run/walk courtesy of Healthyway Natural Foods Market and hot chocolate served by Salvation Army volunteers.

“We are very grateful to ShoreRunners and the community for supporting The Salvation Army’s work in Campbell River,” said Community Ministries Director Kevin Mack. “On average we assist approximately 400 local families per year with emergency assistance and the funds raised through events such as The Reindeer Run and our Christmas kettles allow us to continue that work.”

Pledge forms are also available to participants and can be picked up at ShoreRunners located at 1371 Greenwood Street.
