Nobody should have to go to bed hungry, particularly during the Christmas season and members the Qualicum Bay Lions Club, along with Qualicum Foods, are doing their part to make sure it doesn’t happen.

To this end the Qualicum Bay Lions donated $1,000 to the Salvation Army food bank, a total that was matched by Quality Foods.

Quality Foods representative Ken Bowerman said the store did its best to fulfill the food bank’s wish list.

“We did a little bit of wish list on this one,” he said. “We put in a bit of jam, some peanut butter, lunch box stuff and so on.”

Qualicum Bay Lions representative Jim George said the money was raised through concession sales and pancake breakfasts.

The Lions aren’t done though. They plan to hold a special community breakfast on Dec. 9 at the Lighthouse Community Centre, where they will serve breakfasts in return for financial donations for the food bank, as well as to the hot lunch program at Bowser Elementary School.

Qualicum Bay Lions have 30 members and all funds raised stay within the community and on Vancouver Island.

Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Lions Hall at 280 Lions Way in Qualicum Bay.
