Katie Cliffe is Campbell River's fire chief for the day
Ripple Rock Elementary Grade 3 student Katie Cliffe got a big surprise at school today when a big fire truck pulled up and it was announced she was going to Fire Chief for the day.
Cliffe and other Grade 3 students in Campbell River all had a chance to be selected by attending a Fire Safety House demonstration at their school earlier in the year. Names of all the Grade 3's participating were put into a draw and the Fire Chief for a Day was selected from them.
Cliffe was not informed of her big win until the truck showed up at school. She was taken down to the No. 1 Fire Hall and shown around. Then she had lunch with Acting Mayor Larry Samson at McDonald's before returning to the fire hall. Afterwards, she was taken for a drive in the truck through her neighbourhood and then back to school.
