DPAC brings Dotto to talk data

When they poll members, the growing gap in parents’ understanding of the Internet from the knowledge of the young digital natives is a big concern.

In response the DPAC (District Parent Advisory Council) in School Distirct 69 (Qualicum) is bringing in Steve Dotto to speak about cyber-safety. Dotto hosted and produced Canada’s most popular technology TV show Dotto on Data, and now hosts DottoTech.

DPAC representative Renate Child said his background in comedy and with the Second City theatre make him a very entertaining and understandable technology expert who can explain things in ways the average person can understand.

Everyone is invited, she said, but the talk will be specifically targeted to parents and educators who are concerned about what young people are doing online.

“Our world has changed since we went to school and some of us are on now on the outside looking in on this new digital world that our students are navigating,” pointed out DPAC chair Mike Seselja in an e-mail.

The free talk is Thurs., May 12, at 7 p.m. at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. Coffee and snacks will be available.
