Collection 45 introduces art studio space in Mount Pleasant

In partnership with the Vancouver Contemporary Art Gallery, Collection 45 is introducing Art Studio 45, a studio facility that will give a local artist an amazing opportunity.

Collection 45 is a 45-suite condominium building in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood featuring studio, one- and two-bedroom homes.

Now, a space will be set aside in the building for one artist to have a studio where he or she can work on whatever moves them.

"We wanted to promote contemporary art within the community," says Ameet Johal, marketing director for Fifth Avenue Marketing. Including an artistic component was always part of the plan for the development.

"We consider the homes to be like a piece of art," she says, adding, "The residents are all very design-savvy people."

The artist will be chosen by the executive director of the VCAG, Nigel Prince, and then will hold the studio space for one year.

"They will put a panel together, call for submissions with some requirements, and then make a decision," on who the artist will be, Johal says.

"The neighbourhood is a funky, artsy community," she says. "That feel would be lost if artists weren't here."

The chosen artist will be able to take possession of their studio in the fall of 2013.
