Renovations to Cloverdale's Arena and Curling Rink received a boost from the federal government last week, with the announcement of $41,660 in funding for the project.

The money tops up the $125,000 in planned improvements the City of Surrey is spending.

Work to take place at the arena includes replacing existing lighting, upgrading the arena's exterior and upgrading the condenser and refrigeration system.

Mechanical and structural upgrades to the curling rink are to include new air conditioning, lighting, plumbing fixtures and resurfacing the parking lot.

The federal funding is being provided under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program, part of Canada's economic action plan.

South Surrey-White Rock-Cloverdale MP Russ Hiebert, Surrey mayor Dianne Watts, Coun. Mary Martin and members of the Cloverdale Curling Club were on hand at the Cloverdale arena for the Nov. 10 announcement.
