City hairstylists train with New York’s best

Fashionistas around the globe are set to gather in New York City next month for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, one of the biggest events in the industry, where the work of some local talent will be appearing on the runway.

Adam Bird, Melanie Wheeler and Jennifer Plourde of Aveda ecoChic Salon and Spa will  be teaming up with world-class designers to provide hairstyling for their models.

Though Fashion Week will be the first major event the group has worked at, Bird said that he’s confident they’ll come prepared, thanks to warming up with smaller shows in Victoria with the Pacific Design Academy as well as fashion show training with New York stylist John Raymond.

“We had two days of intense training, it was like a boot camp,” Bird said. “John (Raymond) is definitely a New Yorker.”

Bird and the ecoChic team head to New York for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week from Sept. 4 to 11. Though they haven’t had word on which designers they’ll be working alongside of, Bird said he’s holding his breath for Mark Jacobs or Diane von Furstenberg.
