Mara resident joins board

A North Okanagan resident has been named to the board of a B.C. financial institution.

Quentin Bruns, of Mara, will serve as a director with First West Credit Union, the parent company of Valley First.

Bruns was born and raised in Enderby and he studied agriculture at the University of Alberta before returning to the North Okanagan where he and his wife Daniela today produce certified organic milk from 85 cows.

He has a long history of community involvement, serving as a hockey coach, soccer coach and a 4-H leader. He has also served as president of the North Okanagan Holstein Club, a board member of the B.C. Holstein Club and an executive member of the Kamloops-Okanagan Dairymen’s Association.

More recently, Bruns served on the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District board and was vice-president of the Lower Shuswap Stewardship Society.

In 2006, Bruns was elected to the board of the Enderby and District Credit Union. He served as board chairperson for two years, before guiding the credit union through its successful merger with First West Credit Union.

Following the merger, he was appointed as a Valley First regional council advisor.
