Air Canada rouge takes off from YVR Airport

Air Canada has brought its low-cost, leisure airline to Vancouver, announcing a new daily flight from YVR to Las Vegas aboard rouge.

The rouge plane can carry up to 142 passengers and flies from Canada to exotic locations, with trips to Europe and the Caribbean, Mexico, and the United States.

The Las Vegas route is one of five announced for Vancouver. Rouge will also be flying daily to Anchorage and Phoenix, and four times daily to Los Angeles (starting May 1) and San Francisco (July 1).

"Western Canadians now have a new choice for their vacation travel and all of us at Air Canada rouge look forward to welcoming them onboard," said Renee Smith-Valade of Air Canada rouge, in a press release from YVR Airport.

"Our onboard service is designed to make every flight a memorable start and end to a wonderful vacation, and the host of Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations advantages we offer mean you can truly vacation ahead with Air Canada rouge."

Although it is promoted as a low-cost airline, rouge will charge users for entertainment purchases in-flight, such as iPad, laptop, iPhone, and iPod rentals ($10) and movies, TV shows, and kid's programming to watch ($5).

Travel costs are not listed on YVR's press release or immediately on rouge's website, but a search for a flight from Vancouver to Las Vegas on Monday, May 12 shows a price of $220 on a non-stop rouge Tango flight.
