A luxury fashion outlet mall is coming to Richmond and YVR, and McArthurGlen Group says it will be ready by spring, 2015.

The mall – titled McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport – will be built on a 30-acre bit of land on Sea Island, near Templeton Canada Line station. It will feature 240,000 sq. ft. of retail space, restaurants, and cafes.

"Vancouver offers an excellent location, economic strength, tourism potential, as well as a strong partner in the Vancouver Airport Authority - all elements that guarantee success when opening a premium retail centre," said Joan Jove, development director for McArthurGlen.

McArthurGlen designs high-end luxury fashion malls in Europe, with brands like Prada, Armani, Burberry, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo, Ermenegildo Zegna and Michael Kors (VanCity Buzz).

The YVR outlet has been designed as "an open-air village, with pedestrian-friendly walkways and tree-lined streets."

"This project reinforces Vancouver International Airport's role in the economic development of British Columbia and Canada," said YVR Airport Authority's Tony Gugliotta, in a statement released by McArthurGlen. "Not only will it increase the region's destination appeal for travelers and create approximately 1,000 jobs, but it will also offer the airport an alternative revenue source that will allow us to continue building YVR as a premier global gateway which, in turn, will create even more jobs."
