Three firms among top 10
Three local businesses have made the public's top ten list for best small enterprises.
On Dec. 18, the Small Business B.C. Awards recognized three Surrey business as being at the top of their game.
Kary Movers LTD, a full service moving, storage and delivery company is a top ten semi-finalist for the Best Employer Award, sponsored by WorkSafeBC. The award recognizes the company that stands out from the competition by valuing employee health and safety, to prevent workplace injuries, on the same level that it values productivity and customer service.
Fruiticana Produce Ltd., wholesaler of South Asian groceries and produce is a top ten semi-finalist in three award categories: Best International Trade, Best Company and Best Community Impact. To help promote healthy eating, Fruiticana consistently provides fresh fruit for schools, sporting events and the homeless community, judges found. The company also supports many local charitable organizations.
Mason Industries is also competing for the Best International Trade Award as well as the Best Online Marketer Award. Mason Industries make water repellent, abrasion resistant, breathable, fully lined, stretch denim for action sports, such as snowboarding.
The companies had two months to gain as many votes as possible for their businesses using social media, e-communications and word of mouth. The businesses with the most votes in each award category have been named top ten semi-finalists in the competition.
The Small Business BC Awards recognize the contributions outstanding BC entrepreneurs make in this province. Businesses in industries as diverse as manufacturing, technology and hospitality were nominated from 55 cities across B.C.
“It’s fantastic to see so many small businesses being recognized, not only for their success, but also for the positive impact they’re having on their local communities and the contributions they’re making to the economy,” said George Hunter, CEO of Small Business BC. “With the high quality of nominees this year it’s going to be a tough job selecting the winners, but we’re very excited to see who comes out on top.”
The top ten semi-finalists must now complete an extended award application which will be used to narrow down the competition to the top five finalists in each category. The top five finalists will be announced on Jan. 30, 2014.
The overall winners will be honored on Feb. 27, 2014 at the Small Business BC Awards Ceremony at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver. More information on the finalists and the Small Business BC Awards can be found at www.sbbcawards.ca
