Kruger’s green efforts lauded
Kruger Products, which makes paper products like tissue and toilet paper at mills across North America including one in New Westminster, has been recognized for its efforts to green its supply chain and reduce its carbon footprint.
The company, which has set targets to reduce its packaging by five per cent and to manufacture all its products with sustainably harvested or recycled fibre, as well as reduce emissions, energy consumption, water use and solid waste by 15 per cent by 2015, was awarded the 2013 Greening of the Supply Chain award from the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters.
The company won the award for its initiatives to install new equipment to improve its sustainable performance, reducing transportation inefficiencies, and updating its policies towards suppliers. In 2011 it also achieved certification from the Forest Stewardship Council that ensured its environmental accountability all along the manufacturing and delivery process.
“The award is a real testament to our leadership and commitment to driving sustainable change within our company,” said Steven Sage, the vice president of sustainability and innovation at Kruger.
