Business energy saver program started
The success of a residential energy saving program has spurred New Westminster to team up with LiveSmartBC, Metro Vancouver and BC Hydro for a similar one for small business.
Energy Save New West helps identify potential energy and money saving opportunities starting with an energy advisor inspecting the facility to see where savings can be made. A residential program was launched in the summer.
The city's goal is to have 80 energy assessments done in the next year with 40 businesses proceeding with energy upgrades and improvements to their facilities.
Natalia Petcu, owner of Zoom Hair Salon at the foot of Sixth Street, was one of the first to sign up because she's always looing for ways to save money and stay ahead of the competition.
"Energy Save New West worked with me to identify the best and most suitable energy opportunities and also assisted with identifying grants and rebates from utilities," said Petcu in a city press release. "Saving energy and money is a key motivator, but it's also about doing what's right for the environment and local community."
Registration is available online at energysavenewwest.ca or by calling Coleman at 604-515-3818.
