Chamber Chat: New season comes new commitment
By Odai Sirri
Autumn is officially here and with the start of the new season comes a rejuvenated and refreshed commitment to create a better community through better business.
Like many businesses, this past summer season was one full of considerable activity. A specifically memorable moment recently was the celebration of the final mortgage payment for the chamber. Thanks to the vision and leadership of previous board of directors, executive directors, and CEOs, the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce paid off its mortgage for its headquarters on Bowen Road.
The beautiful facility was built 10 years ago and is now fully paid for.
It truly is a testament to the commitment, dedication and fiduciary responsibility that the entire organization has adhered to for decades.
And it continues to be a hub for present and future businesses and entrepreneurs to rely on for networking, advocacy and support. In fact, networking, advocacy and business support are our three main pillars that are members and the community-at-large look to us for.
With more than 750 members, the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce is one of the largest and most respected organizations of its kind in British Columbia.
The board of directors and our staff take this responsibility seriously and believe it is up to each and every one of us to make our community the best place it can be.
Through the Successful Cities Initiative and the Inspire Nanaimo program, the chamber of commerce has been a leading voice to encourage the development of a healthier and economically and socially prosperous Nanaimo. These important activities and initiatives require your support so I encourage you to take part in our advocacy efforts.
The chamber welcomed dozens of new members during the summer and our growth, like that of Nanaimo, is poised to continue. Whether you are a new or mature business, or you want to connect with a broad cross section of people who love working and living in Nanaimo, I personally invite you to attend any of our highly successful networking opportunities such as our popular luncheons, business after business or business before business events.
Become involved in Nanaimo as much, and as best you can.
And wherever it is that your business takes you, may it be profitable.
Odai Sirri is chairman of the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce.
