Each year, thousands of Canada Safeway Limited employees like Don McNeill, store manager at the Sunshine Hills Safeway, volunteer in an effort to better the communities that they live and work in.

“Volunteerism is an important part of Safeway’s culture and as a company we believe in fostering this commitment to bettering the lives of others,” said Mary D’Astolfo, public affairs manager, Canada Safeway.

Last year British Columbia Safeway employees donated over 48,000 volunteer hours in communities they serve.

Canada Safeway employees that volunteer more than 20 hours in the month are entered into a draw for a chance to award a $1,000 Safeway donation to a charity of their choice.  McNeill is the company’s May 2013 recipient.

“Don is making a big difference to our organization and we’re so pleased that he’s being recognized by Canada Safeway and that we’re the beneficiary of his passion and donation,” said Marilynn Hermann, executive director the Surrey Food Bank.
