Coast Capital sponsors Kindness Rocks for Pink Shirt Day
Some 4,200 School District 43 students will descend on Gleneagle secondary in Coquitlam tomorrow (Wednesday) to learn that kindness does, in fact, rock.
The students from Grades 4 to 12 will be be treated to an upbeat, educational and inspirational show called Kindness Rocks, sponsored by Coast Capital Savings in honour of Pink Shirt Day.
In addition to sponsoring a rock music-inspired show that encourages young people to be kind to one another and the planet, Coast Capital is also one of the presenting sponsors for Pink Shirt Day, a province wide anti-bullying initiative.
"I think for us, because supporting anti-bullying initiatives is so important, it supports one of our core values," said Tara MacKenzie, senior community relations specialist for Coast Capital. "We have this relationship with Kindness Rocks and we have this opportunity to get this message out even further."
Pink Shirt Day was started by two teenage boys from Nova Scotia who stuck up for a Grade 9 boy who was being bullied by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school. The visible support immediately put a stop to the bullying and became an effective awareness campaign that has expanded to schools across the country.
