United Church plans redevelopment celebration on Jan. 24
Phase 1 of the Kamloops United Church’s redevelopment will open on Thursday, Jan. 24.
In phase 1, all services and programs were relocated while a new hall, kitchen and programming space was created.
Upon completion of Phase 1, the second phase will begin, one that will include affordable housing, new administrative space and a new thrift shop.
The housing component will see church buildings scaled back to make way for a six-storey, mixed-use affordable-housing project.
The Jan. 24 event to mark completion of phase 1 is open to the community and will include ceremonies, an open house and a description of plans for the second phase.
The event will also recognize that, in January 2012, the Aviva Community Fund awarded $80,000 to the church for the new kitchen and equipment based on an online voting contest and adjudication process.
The Jan. 24 event will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The total redevelopment, which has been planned for seven years, is expected to cost $12.8 million.
