Horse racing ante upped
The standard bred horse races at Cloverdale will get a major boost this year, as the B.C. government has announced an increase in the take from slot machines to the racing horse industry.
The funding increase, announced Dec. 20, will be effective through the 2013 racing season will up the current 15.5 per cent to a full 25 per cent.
The total funding amount is estimated to be $10 million and will go to ensuring that purse amounts are commensurate with industry standards and provide support for the continued success of the industry.
