UPDATED: North Van's Osborne-Paradis wins super-G at Lake Louise
North Vancouver's Manuel Osborne-Paradis won Sunday's World Cup super-G race at Lake Louise, finishing with a time of one minute 32.93 seconds.
With his first-ever super-G win, Osborne-Paradis becomes the only Canadian male alpine skier to have captured both a super-G and a downhill World Cup race.
“I don’t think it gets any better than this. In super-G I knew that I was making some good turns but I didn’t expect this,” said Osborne-Paradis in an Alpine Canada release.
“I mean I was second here (in the downhill) a couple years ago and now I am first, so this is great,” he added.
Osborne-Paradis wasn't the only Canadian in podium form Sunday. Erik Guay (fourth) and Robbie Dixon (fifth), a North Van native, also placed in the top 5.
Despite the record-breaking performance by the Canadian men's team the celebratory mood was damped when John Kucera, who has stood on the podium twice at Lake Louise, crashed during the super-G race and broke his leg, dashing his dream of competing in 2010.
The Canadian men's team next competes at Beaver Creek on Friday (Nov.4). Saturday's downhill event will be on CBC starting at 10 a.m. PST.
