Shooting aftermath
Police and the B.C. Coroners Service remove the body of a 48-year-old man shot by RCMP outside a an apartment building on Selby Street in Nanaimo Friday morning. The investigation into the shooting is being handled by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit. Police are witholding the name of the victim and are not releasing further details about the investigation other than to say officers feared death or bodily harm to themselves or others if they did not use lethal force. It is the first fatal shooting by police in Nanaimo since Dec. 10, 1996.
