The Salmon Arm Secondary Cross-Country Team is off to the provincials this weekend on the Lower Mainland.

Last Wednesday, Oct. 28, the team raced in the Okanagan championships in Princeton where they came away with three championship pennants and one runner-up.

“We ran on the China Ridge ski trails in six inches of snow, which turned into some pretty good mud puddles by the time the boys race went,” said coach Tricia Martin. “It was a very successful day for Salmon Arm runners.”

In the end, the Senior Girls, the Junior Girls and the Junior Boys all won the Okanagan championships with the Senior Boys placing second, meaning all the teams will be competing in the provincials in Surrey on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Notable accomplishments last Wednesday included: four male and five female runners placing in the top 20, with Caleb Leyenhorst becoming the Okanagan Junior Champion.

Emilyn Sim from Shuswap Middle School placed fifth in the race, so she also qualified to go to the provincials.
