This past weekend the Bantam Chargers faced Penticton for the first time this season in a mud bowl at Little Mountain for their last home game of the regular season.

The result was a lopsided win for Salmon Arm as Penticton was defeated 41-0. The Chargers had hoped this game would be an opportunity to try some new offensive plays but conditions on the field made that difficult.

The ball was extremely slippery so the primary focus was just to hang onto it and not turn over possession. Maintaining ball control was paramount in these conditions.

Defensively, the Chargers were their usual unrelenting selves in not allowing Penticton to move the ball very far or maintain possession for very long. This weekend the Chargers have a bye, then face Penticton and Vernon Nov. 1 and 8 respectively, both away games.

The player of the game was Garret McCarthy. Kyle Jordan, Cody Stubbins and Hayden Jeffery also got honourable mention for stand out performances.

Broncos

The Salmon Arm Broncos were defeated in a nail biter for their first loss of the season on Sunday.

In what was easily the best game of the year, the Broncos (6-1) brought it right down to the wire against the Kelowna Dragons (7-0), losing 22-21.

The Broncos’ offense was led by QB Keegan Christian, who orchestrated three scoring drives and led a last-minute ‘no huddle’ drive down to the Dragons eight-yard line before being unable to convert on third down with 17 seconds remaining.

Running backs Sam Wong and Grant Shishido also had very strong games, but only because the offensive line did an outstanding job of opening up big holes for them to run through.

The Dragons were unable to score any points in the second half, being shut down by a very stingy Broncos defence. The defence was led by outside linebacker Bryce Hicks, middle linebacker Grant Shishido and the three men on the defensive line (Cal Peters, Miles Brown and Chance Vanderhoek), who made plays all over the field to shut down the Dragons offence.

Sunday’s game was an outstanding team effort and really showed the heart of the Salmon Arm Broncos to be that of warriors. The Broncos are playing in Vernon this weekend, against a stingy Marauders team that the Broncos beat 36-6 earlier in the season.

Golds

The Golds football team put in a surprisingly poor performance Friday night at Little Mountain fields, losing to Mt. Boucherie 41 - 6.

It was a huge league game with lots of playoff pressure on both teams, which likely contributed to the loss.

Cody Wouters scored the only touchdown on a 14-yard run. The team was led defensively by Nathan Strom and Riley Jackson each with seven tackles.
