The SAS Golds soccer team played host to the South Kam Titans this week in divisional AAA soccer action. The game was a battle for first place and it proved to be the most challenging game yet for the Golds.

The game began well when a Dylan Abbott corner kick was tipped in by Andrew Hauser. However, late in the first half Kamloops drew even on a breakaway.

The Golds held the majority of the possession in the second but the game seemed destined to end in a tie. However, with 20 minutes left, Logan Abbott sent Ray Ross in on a breakaway and Ross chipped the ball past a quality Kamloops keeper. Although not busy, Gold’s keeper, Cody Bell, was very sure in his shot stopping and made a critical challenge to break up a goal scoring chance in the last five minutes of the game.

Strong efforts from Joel Braun, Cam Richardson and Ben Shager supported the Gold’s victory. The team has a 5-0 record and will play Mount Boucherie next Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Little Mountain.

The team will be hosting an “Off the Post and In to Win” penalty shot contest for fans at each home game for the rest of the season. The public is invited to come out and support the local boys as they play for a berth in the provincial championships.
