The Salmon Arm Secondary Golds played their first two games at home this weekend in the BC Boys’ high school AAA Soccer League.
The two time regional champions started the season off in style by dominating the competition.
In game one, Dylan Jeffery started the scoring with a long strike into the lower left corner. Shortly after, Dylan Abbott played a beautiful pass onto the foot of Andrew Hauser who turned and blasted a drive into the top right corner.
Into the second half, Logan Abbott finished a brilliant two-on-one play from Andrew Hauser, and Oliver Eberle drove a shot past a stunned Kelowna keeper. Austin Schneebeli added to the scoring with a rocket from 35 yards out to pace the Golds to a convincing 5-1 win over a solid Kelowna Secondary School’s Owls team.
With two national level sprinters on the Kelowna side, Salmon Arm’s tenacious team defence of Ray Ross, Ben Shager, Shane Mostrovich and Austin Schneebeli was key to this win.
In game two, the Golds played a dominant possession and attack game, thumping Penticton 13-0. Dylan Abbott scored four times, with Shane Mostrovich and Logan Abbott chipping in three each. Singles came from Jonathan Purnell and Eric Schneebeli while Golds keeper, Cody Bell, scored on a penalty shot.
The Golds next game is today, Wednesday, against the Rutland Voodoos in Rutland.
