A total of 28 meet records were broken by Sockeye swimmers and many top-three finishers were turned in this past weekend in Golden at the fourth meet of the season.

Matt Cooper and Jaeden Izik-Durko shared several records in the division two boys, both breaking the 50-metre butterfly, 100-m ndividual medley (IM), and 50-m and 100-m freestyle records. Izik-Dzurko also broke the 50-m backstroke and 50-m breaststroke records.

Bree Cooper broke five records in the division three girls’ category. She set new standards in the 100-m IM, 50-m breaststroke, 50- and 100-m freestyle and 50-m butterfly. Brayden Gilliam broke the division three boys’ 100-m IM, 50-m butterfly, 50 and 100-m freestyle, and 50m backstroke.

John Connor saw the records fall for every event he swam in division four boys, which included 200-m IM, 50-m butterfly, 50-m freestyle, 100-m backstroke, 100-m breaststroke, and 100-m freestyle. Gilliam also broke two club records this weekend, his own 100-m freestyle record as well as a new 50-m freestyle record.

Fourteen aggregates were won this weekend by Sockeyes. In division one, Claire Hall took the silver and Aria Izik-Dzurko won gold on the girls side, while Tyler Bushell swam to silver on the boys side. Gabrielle Hanvold won herself silver in the girls division two category. The boys division two awards were all taken by Sockeyes yet again, with Jaeden Izik-Durko earning gold, Matt Cooper silver, and Gaelyn Gilliam bronze.

Bree Cooper worked hard for a gold medal in division three girls. Alexander Corbett and Brayden Gilliam both won top three placings, with a silver and gold respectively. John Connor edged out his competition to win himself the gold aggregate in division four boys.

Sydney Chesham finished off the top-three awards by swimming hard to receive a bronze medal in the division five girls.

Brayden Gilliam swam his way to first place in every race, earning him the Top Overall Aggregate for boys at the meet. Keeya Corbett had an exceptional meet and was the coaches’ choice for Swimmer of the Meet.

Brianna Chapman took an amazing eight seconds off in her 100-m freestyle. Jacob McIntyre-Paul swam hard to shave 20 seconds from his times over two races.

Jon and Sam Wex both attended their first summer swim meet, and helped their relays to first and second place.

The Salmon Arm Sockeyes came second overall at the meet, with the host team the Golden Dolphins winning first place.
