Decision not yet a done deal

With reference to Ms. Hughes’ column in which we encounter the term “fatalism” in the title, I couldn’t agree more based on past history in general when economics and environment meet head on.
The environment is still not the priority in the vast majority of cases, and there is little reason to expect the outcome here to be any different. And it can be kicked around until the cows come home, while fill gets dumped, and surveyors play.
However, the game is not over. I believe it is true that if a ground swell of support based on the numbers of Salmon Arm residents who were visibly opposed to the development of the current SmartCentres site was apparent to council members, there would be a chance of turning the tide.
That is mainly how it has worked in other places and city councillors are politicians.
They are where they are because of numbers, and they are probably very concerned with how many folks are opposed and in favour really, for whatever reason.
Well, they will need to be shown. We live in a democracy where we get to protest and demonstrate for what we want in public.
So at some point in the next few weeks, when the opportunities present themselves, show yourself. The outcome depends on it.
