Salmon Arm has not been stagnant

After reading Bill Remphrey’s letter in the Observer, I couldn’t, but agree totally with him regarding the signs of life in this city.
I have lived and worked in Salmon Arm since the late 60s and all the things he mentions in his letter have happened. When we arrived here, this was a small community with the bus station downtown. Also, I believe one couldn’t find any gas station open after midnight.
We certainly have come a long way since then. And what a great place to live then and now as well.
Why is it that so many people want big- box stores? We have plenty of stores here and if it is the costs, one must watch for sales, and there are many sale items every week.
The grocery stores offer good sales practically each week. Also, many clothing stores as well, but I suppose big-box stores are inevitable. Another place that has grown over the years is the hospital. Three renovations and additions since I came here. That must indicate that this town keeps on growing and services are keeping up with the growth.
So, why spoil a unique and different place to live than what we have here. And I’m sure it will keep on growing slowly and favourably.
