Bus stop changes worry parent

Further to your story regarding school busing issues, last Friday parents received a notice stating there was a bus stop change again.

This time the bus driver told the parents of South Broadview students who waited at the city bus stop across from Fletcher Park that they will now have to catch the bus in the morning at 7:32 a.m. across from the Senior’s Centre at 1st Street and 5th Avenue SE.  This is a considerably longer walk to all concerned and a great many of the people waiting with their children are single moms, some with up to three children, some are parents and children with disabilities and also some children who walk to the bus alone as it is.  Many of these parents do not own a car and certainly cannot afford a different mode of transportation for their children.

The bus driver told us the reason for this change was, “it was making the high school students late.”

Although some of us have alternate methods of getting our children to school, others do not have that luxury.  With all of the stress and negative feelings caused, it is also important for the whole community, city and government to encourage children and youth to go to school and get their education (no matter what their economic situation), not put as many roadblocks in their way as possible.
