Another community pillar has been lost.
Dorothy Askew died Monday morning at the age of 87.
Born in Kamloops and raised in Revelstoke, Dorothy attended nursing school at New Westminster’s Royal Columbian Hospital.
She worked at the Salmon Arm hospital until her marriage to Lloyd Askew in 1945. Together the couple raised three children, David, Colleen and Karen.
Once her children were grown, Dorothy helped out in the office at Askew’s Foods, taking over as president when Lloyd died.
She was an active volunteer and community supporter and made generous donations to several organizations.
The Observer will publish a memorial to Dorothy next week.
