A recent patrol around Vernon wasn’t routine for an RCMP officer.

On Aug. 20 at about 7 p.m., an officer was conducting a patrol of the downtown area when he noticed the driver of a small car swerve.

“The driver seemed very concerned that the officer observed him,” said Gord Molendyk, detachment spokesman.

“The vehicle was checked a short distance away and the officer quickly learned that the license plate on the car did not belong to it. The driver could not produce his driver’s license.”

The situation became more serious when the driver was asked to get out of the vehicle and the officer observed several neatly folded pieces of paper on the floor.

“The folded paper turned out to be nine flaps or nine packages of heroin,” said Molendyk.

A 44-year-old man from the Salmon Arm area was arrested and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
