Police are releasing few details relating to the search for a high-risk offender that ended in arrest on Shuswap Lake.
On Monday, Aug. 24 officers from the Sicamous RCMP detachment and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit out of Edmonton located a man wanted on a Western-Canada warrant. He had been out on Shuswap Lake on a houseboat rented from the Sicamous area. A police helicopter accompanied officers on the Sicamous RCMP’s marine vessel who contacted the suspect and brought him back to Sicamous without incident.
“There was absolutely no problem with him at all,” commented Sgt. Dave Lauinger out of Edmonton. “It’s just we were erring on the side of caution on our part, because he is a high-risk offender and violent, if you will.”
The suspect was taken into police custody, though Lauinger would not reveal the name of the offender, or the related charges, stating there was “nothing official” yet.
