A 17-year-old Canoe resident is being held in custody after starting a fire at his residence in the 5200-block of 68th Ave. NE.

The youth, who can not be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is facing arson charges for the Aug. 16 blaze.

Salmon Arm Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 9 a.m., however the fire had already been extinguished by a neighbour.

The fire had damaged the front living room curtains, surrounding wall and some furniture.

Police were called to the scene and upon investigation discovered the fire had been purposely started by the teenager after a family dispute with his mother.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police are still investigating.
