Community theatre plan clarified

In the June 24 Observer, a proposal for a new community theatre was incorrectly called a performing arts centre.

Proponents would like to clarify that the definition of a performing arts centre is a multi-use performance space that is intended for use by various types of the performing arts groups, including dance, music and theatre.

They hope to go one step further with a community theatre concept that would do all that plus include a space for showing films, having lectures, meetings, classes and possibly office space for art groups.

The concept of a performing arts centre could limit the perception of what the facility is and can do, and unfortunately is often associated with running into a financial deficit.

The proponents hope to project a new image that is both all encompassing and running debt free.
