1909 Today (Nov. 5) is Guy Fawkes Day and the local LOL will celebrate by holding an entertainment in Eureka Hall tonight. There will be a good program of vocal and instrumental music and refreshments will be served. Some youngsters and some young men who should have sense enough to know better were up before John Johnson, JP, on Thursday morning, to pay for their pranks on Saturday night, which they took to be Halloween. As the outhouses which had been upset had been again righted by them, they were let off with small fines, sufficient to pay for the little oil they spilt at the English church.

1919 A school girl was knocked down by an auto last week on Front Street but fortunately was not injured. A junior was in charge of the car and was at the wheel. It should be remembered that the law forbids the running of autos by juniors under 17 years of age.

1929 Halloween passed off wonderfully quietly. There was some evidence the next day that a little mischief had been indulged in but there was little or no damage as a result. Shopkeepers who had to face the cold morning air and clean their windows were not in a very cheerful mood. It gave them something to grumble at with cause.

1939 In news from the high school, everyone was intrigued to see Peggy Morrion talking to a tall, handsome young man in the hall. Then it was discovered that it was her brother, Jack, a former high school student who is now a meteorologist at Sea Island Airport. The students are also pleased to welcome back a former classmate, Edgar Golley, who has had a change of heart and is coming back to school.
