1919Mayor Clingan, Ald. Ball, Ald. McGuire, R.J. Glasgow, S.K. Campbell, Dr. Connelly, George Clingan, Frank Wilcox and H.F. Pardey motored over to Enderby, Armstrong and Vernon on Wednesday last to interview the councils for those cities on the question of harnessing the Adams River waterfalls. The mayor outlined the scheme in detail and we are informed that the proposition was favourably received by all three councils.

Mr. P. Prefontaine motored over to Vernon on Monday and brought over 200 gallons of gasoline back with him on the truck.

The tennis courts are now open. A tournament was opened yesterday afternoon and will continue until Saturday, July 19th next. Players name for same are posted at pavilion.

1929The government book loan library which is usually housed at the Mt. Ida School will be found at Mrs. Reid’s home. One hundred and fifty volumes are available for residents.

As in all centres throughout the British Empire, there were held in various churches of Salmon Arm on Sunday thanksgiving services for the recovery from illness of King George. Prominent amongst these was the service at St. John’s Anglican Church where the Rev. M.E. West and the Rev. F.R. Hillary officiated. In and interesting manner the Rev. Mr. Hillary outlined many features about King George and his relationship with the nation. The modern king, he said, fills a position which is symbolic to the people. The latter rule but it is the king who represents and symbolizes them.

1939Miss Pauline Prescott, Miss Pearl Pacey, Miss Ivy Harper, Miss Molly Beach and Mr. C. McMechan, local school teachers, left Sunday night to take the teachers’ summer school in Victoria.

Some 376 pounds of butter will be available for families on relief and for some, who, while not on relief are just on the border. The vouchers will be given out with relief cheques and each holder will be entitled to purchase one pound and will be given another pound without charge.

Tricky weather conditions including a temperature up in the nineties in the shade (and none available) and the ground haze made high scores a matter of considerable difficulty at the range on Sunday.
