Classical series begins Sunday

Following a successful pilot project, the Kamloops Symphony has announced the introduction of a regular Salmon Arm concert series. The series was implemented in response to interest expressed by classical music lovers within the community. Since the first performance last fall, local businesses, enthusiastic audiences and hard-working volunteers have encouraged the continuation of the new program. This fall, a grant from the Shuswap Community Foundation provided a much-needed financial boost.
On Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m., the first performance of three concerts in the new season will feature clarinetist Jerome Summers. Originally from Kamloops, Summers has enjoyed a distinguished career as a conductor, clarinetist, composer and teacher.
He has performed with many of Canada’s major symphony orchestras as well as with internationally renowned chamber and solo performers. Summers’ solo works on this program are Concertino for Clarinet by Carl Maria von Weber and Pissarro Landscapes for Clarinet, Piano and Strings by Canadian composer Oliver Whitehead. The major orchestral work in Sunday’s concert is Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
Subscription tickets for the series are available until Oct. 3 at a 10 per cent savings. Single tickets can also be purchased through Kamloops Live! Box Office or at the door.
