Shuswap Theatre is ready to unwrap an exciting season, beginning with Two By Two, two one-act plays, directed by Rebecca Marchand and Elizabeth Ann Skelhorne, and mentored by professional actor Danielle Dunn-Morris.
What is sanity in our capitalist world of endless consumerism? How do we fill the empty spaces of our lives? Do our lives have any meaning at all? How do we prove that we exist?
These are the questions scrutinized in American Modern.
A husband and wife piece together the puzzle of their lives in the modern world of privilege and excess, elitism and snobbery. Typical of our modern age, these characters question the axioms of their time with incredible self consciousness, filling the spaces with intangible intellect and awareness and, ultimately, finding a mutual if not eccentric accommodation to the spiritual despair of their lives in a world of lost faith.
In the second play, Not Enough Rope, a woman in a rooming house who can’t cope with her problems, finds she can’t commit suicide because she doesn’t have enough rope.
She badgers the new tenant across the hall into giving her the twine that was used to tie up his boxes. Another tenant adds a twist to the plot.
This Mainstage production runs Oct. 2 to 10 (no show Sunday or Monday evenings).
