It’s been 10 years since Maggy Davidson opened Spirit Quest Books in Salmon Arm.

“I was living on the Coast all my life and I was driving back from Calgary in the summer of 1998 just before the fires. I stopped here to visit my brother... I really fell in love with Salmon Arm and felt it was a magical place.”

In October of 1999, she opened her store.

“I knew I was on the right track with the universe. My brand new computer crashed three days after I opened – I had to open and then close. When I reopened, I got notification from the Coast that my house had sold. That was my clue from the universe – ‘Just wanted you to be sure you’re doing the right thing.’”

Throughout this month, she will be having ongoing sales to celebrate the anniversary.

The store offers much more than books, including jewelry, semi-precious stones, salt from the Himalayas, essential oils, shawls and more.

She says a lot of people come in on their lunch hour to relax.

“That’s really what we offer, quiet and a respite from your busy day. We’re offering people a way to connect with their spirituality, whatever that is for them... I honour all religions. I don’t really care what they believe, I care that they believe.”

Spirit Quest Books is located at 170 Lakeshore Dr. NE, across from Askew’s. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
