Artisans hold grand opening July 3

The Artisans of the Shuswap are planning a grand opening on July 3.  You’re invited to come to their store in Centenoka Park Mall, two doors down from Sears, to meet the artisans and see their displays.

Present members now are Beve Hietala, Bonnie Bacigalupo, Julia Armstrong,  Johanne Michael, Jan Parada, Cathy Rademacher, Cindy Whitehead, Sherrie Van Dusen and Albert Gibson.

You will find paintings. jewelry, fine woodworking, iron works, natural soaps, pottery, stained glass and much more.

ODD JOB WEEK

The Salmon Arm Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) will host its annual Odd Job Week from July 6 to 10.. Odd Job Week promotes youth employment by linking young people seeking casual summer employment and employers or homeowners seeking help.

Young people can sign up with the Odd Job Squad at the SCCY. They indicate their work experience and availability and are then notified when a suitable job is available. Examples of odd jobs include; lawn work, clerical duties, painting and flyer distribution. The duration of the each job can vary from a few hours to a few weeks.

Visit the Salmon Arm SCCY while they promote their Odd Job services, at the following places:

•Monday, July 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Service Canada Centre, where they will be outside the building with an outdoor office with a lemonade stand and promotional items.

•Tuesday, July 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., where they will be outside Askew’s Foods with hopes of signing up casual labourers and taking in casual jobs.

•Wednesday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Market Day Street Party on Hudson Avenue, where they will have an info booth and games with prizes.

•Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July 10, at the Service Canada Centre for Youth, where they will be inside taking in casual jobs and signing up youth.

GARDEN SHOW

There will be a variety of displays and exhibitors showcasing their products and services during the Summer Garden Show July 9, 10 and 11 at The Mall at Piccadilly. The three-day garden show will feature a variety of local gardening related businesses, interactive displays and presentations from local gardening experts.

In addition to the garden show, the Shuswap Garden Club will be hosting an open flower show on Saturday, July 11. Gardeners are encouraged to enter their flowers in various categories including cut roses, arrangements, potted houseplants and fresh-cut annuals and perennials. There will be a special seniors category and new this year is a photo contest of your flowers, garden or water features. Ribbons will be awarded for the top three winners in all classes.

NEW CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT

Salmon Arm chartered accountant (CA) student, Shawn Birkenhead (BDO Dunwoody LLP), graduated from the CA School of Business program at a ceremony held May 23 in Vancouver. Students recognized at the convocation ceremony are eligible for membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC this year.

 “Shawn earned his CA designation by successfully completing an unparalleled and rigorous academic program, focused on business and accounting competencies,” said Richard Rees, FCA, CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia. “We are very proud of him, and he should be proud to have earned the prestigious CA designation.”

 To qualify as a CA, students must have a university degree or equivalent, 30 months of practical work experience in a chartered accountancy firm, and complete courses. CAs must also pass a comprehensive rigorous national final exam.
