Atom Development

The Century 21 atoms traveled to Penticton on the weekend, and came away with a 6-2 victory over the Jr. Vees. Merritt came out flying right from the opening puck-drop and played a strong 60 minutes of hockey. Point getters for the Jr. Cents were Michael Van Unen (2), Dillan Dolgopol, Travis Sterling, Noah Racine, Tanveer Bansi, Nolan Kneen, Travis Simon, Tyran Robertson, and Sunil Sahota.

Peewee Rep

The Merritt Boston Pizza peewees split their weekend pair of games, losing a close one on home ice, 7-5 to Kelowna, but rebounding for a 9-6 victory in Winfield the next day. Bryce MacDonald had a big weekend with five goals in two games, while Grayson McMaster was close behind with four. Matt Fichter, Grady Musgrave and Riley Barnes each chipped in with two goals, while singles came from Curtis Dick, Sahil Bansi and Wyatt Weiler. Sam and Tyrell Suzuki split the weekend netminding duties.

The Delivery Boys have a busy weekend coming up with three games in three days – versus Westside at home Friday night, and then on the road in Summerland and Oliver Saturday and Sunday.

Bantam Rep

The Murray GM bantams picked up three of a possible four points on the weekend despite a short bench due to injuries and illness. On Saturday, Merritt gave up three unanswered goals in the late going and had to settle for a 4-4 tie with Westside. Murray GM scorers were Brody Tod (2), Seth Russell and Kolt Antoine. It was a blowout on Sunday, as the Jr. Cents ran roughshod over visiting Lillooet 14-0. The local bantams pointedly tried to distribute the scoring around, with every member of the team but one finding the back of the net. Griffin Baillie picked up his first shutout of the season in net.

Midget Rep

The Merritt’s Tracker Sportswear midgets fared well on the weekend, winning two of three on the road despite a number of injuries to key players on the team.

Friday night, in Summerland, the Tracker midgets faded down the stretch, falling to the Jets 8-5. Payton Schaefer and Liam Ouellette each had two goals in a losing cause, with Daylan Robertson picking up Merritt’s fifth marker. Things improved dramatically on Saturday and Sunday as head coach Joe Quewezance’s squad posted 9-3 and 5-4 victories over Westside and Vernon respectively. Schaefer tallied a total of four more times in the two encounters, while linemate Eric Schmidt had a hat trick in the Westside game and five goals in total. Other Merritt scorers were Cole Drennan (2), Ouellette, Tyler O’Hearn and Corbin Mosley. Both Russell Sanderson and Michael DeSimone had starts in net for the Jr. Cents. This coming weekend, the Merritt midgets are in Abbotsford for the third of their five tournaments this busy season.
