It was a weekend full of ball, fun and sun.
Mixed ball players couldn’t have asked for better weather as they hosted their season wrap up on Saturday and Sunday in Central Park.
“It seems like everyone had a good time and enjoyed the weekend,” explains Denis MacDonald, one of the organizers of the event.
He says this year they tried out a new format. In the past they haven’t kept stats throughout the season. This year they did, and so when it came to the wrap-up weekend they divided teams into three divisions based on how they performed in the regular season.
“Everyone seemed to like the new format,” MacDonald explains. “We had closer games and people were more involved and were having a good time.”
He explains that with different divisions in place, teams competing against each other were more evenly matched.
“It was much more competitive,” he says. “Teams were playing against people with the same skill level.”
He adds that it also meant everyone played more games than in the past, with each guaranteed at least four games.
Of the 17 teams in the mixed league, 13 took part in the tournament. They played a two game round robin and a double knockout.
In the C division team Kaos beat City Furniture with a score of 7-6. Five teams competed in this division.
With four teams playing in the B division, it came down to two. The Cowboys and the Indians took on Scared Hitless and ended up defeating them with a score of 11-4.
In division A four teams started out, and the final came down to the Home Reckers and Detox. The winner of the A division was the Home Reckers with a score of 16-8.
MacDonald says it was a great way to end a
successful year.
“We’ll be back on the field in April,” he says, predicting another great season of mixed ball. He says that is thanks to the dedication of a strong and committed board.
“That’s what makes this league continue to run,” he explains.
