Rugby player raising funds

Merritt rugby player Paige Norgaard will join the provincial under-19 women’s team at the 2008 National Rugby Championships in Ottawa from Aug. 13 to 24.

Team B.C. wrapped up its preliminary training camp last week, and it will hold the main camp in Ottawa five days before the tournament.

Players on the team bear the costs for the trip, and this year they are selling t-shirts to raise funds.

Norgaard has placed order forms for the shirts at Mandolin’s Bagel and Coffee House Work ‘N Play, Nicola Valley Massage therapy and Norgaard Ready Mix, and she hopes to sign up more locations in the weeks leading up to the tournament.

For more information, contact Norgaard at (250) 378-5121.

Rutherford teamed up with Clinton’s Josh Cahill to score the top prize with a time of 6.3 seconds. The duo beat second place team Cecil and Leo Louis from Vernon by 0.5 seconds.

At the 32nd Annual Coombs Rodeo on July 19 and 20, Logan Lake rider Monica Oram placed third in barrel racing with a time of 16.596. Melanie Beeton of Prince George took first place, finishing in 16.482 seconds.
