Good Samaritans in Merritt
Dear Editor:
Last Saturday evening, Oct. 10th, a most unusual event occurred in the parking lot of your local Walmart.
We were trailering our horses, back to Kelowna, after a long day of riding in the hills when the lights went out in our truck. We were in a real jam, two very tired horses in the trailer, a very cold night descending and no way to get home.
Out of nowhere, a fellow and his wife appeared and asked if we needed help. Over the next hour, with much cooperation from the friendly Walmart staff, this calm, competent man worked on the truck until the lights shone into the icy night.
We offered to pay the man and he and his wife both refused.
Good Samaritans exist in Merritt, I know, as we met two of them in person last Saturday night.
This couple defined “the kindness of strangers”- a kindness we were very grateful to have received.
Thanks once again, you have done Merritt proud!
