The Nicola Valley Aquatic Centre has undergone major renovations this year and more are still to come.

So far, upgrades have included a new coat of paint in the weight room and reception area, replacement and painting of the ceilings in the change rooms, new, more efficient lighting and some aesthetic improvements to the reception area.

As well as a fresh look, interior upgrades have also been done, including replacement of the filtration system and a cleaning and sanitization of most of the duct work.

The aquatic centre was built in 1993, and this is the first time such an overhaul of the facility has been done.

Jessica Jonas, acting supervisor at the pool, said the reason the upgrades have been done is, “Because we have an awesome Leisure Services manager. She’s taking care of things. Carolyn’s done a great job of getting grants.”

Jonas said the pool has managed to keep programs running during changes, and will continue to do so when more renovations happen next year.

With funding from the provincial and federal governments, the City will be retrofitting the dehumidification unit, replacing the mezzanine in the rear mechanical room and making some repairs to the front mechanical room.

The City projects are tentatively scheduled for summer 2010.

Sometime in the next few months the aquatic centre, as well as the civic centre and arena will be getting new low-flow toilets and urinals, and motion-detection faucets.
