WUMP people want your view
Updated: September 30, 2009 6:41 AM
If you have any questions surrounding the Nicola Water Use Management Plan, here’s your chance to ask.
The steering committee for WUMP will be holding an open house on Oct. 7 from 4 p.m. to 9 .m. at the Merritt Civic Centre.
That will be the time to view the plan for the watershed, ask questions, learn about the water resource and provide feedback on the proposed plan.
A formal presentation on the contents of the plan will take place at 7 p.m., followed by a question and answer period.
An important part of the open house will be an opportunity for the public to provide feedback.
That feedback will be collected over the next few months and the plan will be amended as necessary before it will be forwarded to the provincial government with a request for adoption.
The plan is the culmination of four years of meetings, information gathering, analysis, discussing options and developing recommendations for the issues and concerns around water that have been identified.
Given the lack of precipitation and the resulting low flows in the Coldwater and Nicola rivers in 2009, residents are encouraged to become more knowledgeable about where our water comes from and how the future may unfold.
