Literacy Merritt creates new hours for ESL students

The ESL course run by Literacy Merritt has new hours to better suit participants’ schedules.

The program at the public library is now on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program is available free to adults in the community who need help with English skills for everyday living. There is also an ESL coffee circle on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Participants can attend and practise their English speaking skills over coffee with ESL volunteers and other students from the class. “I am very excited about the ESL Coffee Circle being added to the program,” said Robyn Grebliunas, Literacy Outreach Coordinator. “This is a great way for the participants to gain more skills. We are very fortunate to have such positive partnership formed with the public library and to be working with dedicated volunteers to build the program.” The nine-week program ends in early January. Registration is still open for newcomers. Literacy Merritt is a community project funded by Literacy B.C. and the Ministry of Education.
